Introduction to Brief:
"Challenge 50" is a great brief to indulge in, particularly if you are somebody who often struggles with time management, has spare time on their hands, wants to develop their design skills and/or wants to find their own personal style. You are expected to find a style which you find yourself gravitating towards as a designer, and consistently experiment with this same medium/style. Personally, the style which I find myself gravitating towards is digital illustration. It is best to do this when you do not have any briefs that you need to complete.
I would advise you post your designs on social media once you have created them, such as Instagram. It will be a great way to look back at your impressive amount of work, as well as get your work out there. Make sure you use plenty of hashtags (examples include #designers, #artist, #artwork) to increase the chance of people finding your work.
This brief will, of course, take 50 days to complete. This is not including the few days prior, which I advise you research into what medium(s) and techniques you want to use for your 50 consecutive days.
Below is an example of my own work, where I am experimenting with a similar concept. The designs below are my approach to "Unfortunate Circumstances", which led me to create a digital illustration of a man who has such a big nose, it is his poking him through his own reflection in a mirror.
I created three final variations of this design, one with a red and blue colour palette, one with an orange and green palette, and one with just the outline.

For this brief, you need to create 50 designs for 50 consecutive days. Make sure you have fun with this project. Allow yourself to positively engage with what you create.
What you will learn:
A developed understanding towards the importance of a strong time management.
How to successfully time manage.
A developed skill towards your favoured medium.
Section 1 - PREPARATION & RESEARCH
A) Understanding the importance of successful time management.
Before you start designing, I want you to do some thinking into WHY I am setting this brief. Grab a notebook and answer these questions:
Why is it important for you to maintain successful time management?
What can you do to ensure you successfully time manage during your briefs?
B) What style/techniques are you going to experiment with?
First, you need to identify what medium you are going to experiment with.
When looking back at your previous designs that you have created in your briefs, what are your favourites? What design turned out to be the most successful? What did you enjoy creating most?
Digital illustration? Collage? Screen printing? Photography? Painting? Lino print? Pattern design? Typography?
C) Researching revlevant designers to inspire you.
Now you have discovered what medium you are going to use for this 50 day challenge, you need to find AT LEAST THREE artists who also experiment with the medium which you are aiming to use.
(If you are struggling to find any artists, scroll through this blog. I have done plenty of different blogs about different artists who inspire me.)
Section 2 - DESIGN
Now that all of the preparation & research is done, you should:
Have a good understanding on the importance of successful time management.
Have a chosen medium which you are going to experiment with.
Have a minimum of three designers which you have found to help inspire your design.
You should be ready to start designing. Now use the link below, select "Quantity: 50", and randomly generate 50 different topics (or generate 1 a day).
Remember, try to have fun with this project! Try to be as creative as you can with whatever words you get!
You should create:
50 different designs, based on a particular theme, generated using coolgenerator.com.
I would advise you have different variations of each design, looking at small details like colour palette. You could also zoom into different sections of your design, bringing the audiences attention to a certain detail, which you are proud of.
Section 3 - ANALYSIS Now you have chosen which design is the final outcome, it is time to analyse your work. Answer the following questions:
How did you find this brief? Challenging? Exciting? Difficult? Fun? Stressful?
What medium/style did you choose and why?
What are the most successful design techniques that you used during this process?
Looking back, is there any adjustments you would make to your design approach?
Did you successfully time manage this project? How did you do this? What techniques did you use (such as a timetable)?
End of Brief.
