My name is Lauren Smith and I am a twenty one year old graduate from Nottingham Trent University who studied Graphic Design. I have always had a passion for design, particularly focusing on the satisfying journey from the start of a brief to the final product. The process of experimenting with lots of different medias and approaches, creating a successful project, journey and outcome. I first found my love for graphic design when studying at college at West Suffolk College. This course was mainly digitally based, which at the time I loved because that was, and still is, my comfort area however I soon realised in order to grow as a graphic designer, I need to step out of my comfort area and experiment with hand based work more, which led me to NTU and has allowed me to see some progress in my work. I enjoy experimenting with collage design, digital illustration and drawing - whether that be continuous line drawings, perspective drawings etc. Digital Illustration is my strong point within graphic design, as well as my skill create a strong project when it comes to actually processing the journey. When studying at both WSC and NTU, a skill of mine which I was always praised for was my sketchbook work. Because of this, I will write many posts including tips for anyone who is currently in a design rut and desperately needs help getting out of it! I would consider myself as somebody who is the Jack-of-all-traits within the Graphic Design world, which would make myself quite a good teaching role with in this field.
Outside design, my other interests would be being addicted to updating my Spotify playlists, mainly being hip-hop artists with a jazz beat, including Little Simz, Oscar #Worldpeace and Loyle Carner or even instrumental music for when I am working or reading. My favourite feeling is discovering a smaller artist who creates music that I am in love with, such as aytrn, dxvl and Alewya. My favourite author of all time is Matt Haig and if I had to recommend one book out of his, it would have to be "The Humans".
